Whenever I turn my system on, it is really sluggish and it won't allow me to do anything until the hard drive finishes spinning (you know, making that crunching sound). I think that this problem is coming from the icons in the task bar.

Could you show me how to remove the icons from my taskbar to prevent the computer from operating so sluggishly.

Thank you,

Robert

If you mean programs that start with windows, which appear in the system tray at the end of the taskbar, then run (start/run) msconfig. You can see what's being started and disable the ones you don't want.

See this forum:
thread779-449844 try cleaning out the Windows/Preftech folder. Just delete everything in it. Windows should start up faster.
