You really can't use a GPO to remove the installed apps but you could use a GPO to block their execution by adding them to the list of "Don't Run Specified Applications."
You will unfortunatley NOT be able to use this method with the Win9x clients. Best advice there is to:
A.) get rid of the 9 year old OS!
B.) if you can't do A. then manually uninstall the apps
I've heard of some die hard companies still running some Win98, but 95! Wow. Tell your boss they got thier monies worth and it is time to upgrade to an OS that has security updates still being created and supported.
I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.
In Windows 2000, Microsoft hid Games and some other Windows programs from users so they couldn't easily uninstall them. To unhide these programs so you can use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall them, follow these directions:
First, make sure you can see all hidden files on the hard drive by opening "My Computer" and clicking "Tools->Folder Options". Then select the "View" tab and then select "Show Hidden Files and Folders".
Now, open the C:\winnt folder (or your whereever your system root folder is located) and find the "inf" folder, and then the file "sysoc.inf" file within that folder.
Double click on this file, which should open it up in Notepad. Click on the "Edit" button at the top and select "Replace". Type the word "Hide" (without quotes) in the "Find What" box. Leave the "Replace With" box empty. Click "Replace All". This unhides all those programs Micro$oft didn't want you to see.
Now, save the file, overrighting the original. (I think you need to have administrative rights to save this file.)
Now, go to "Add/Remove" programs and click "Add/Remove Windows Componets" from the side bar. Games should now be visible.
