Please help us remove find4u. It has also added five folders to our favorites that also reload everytime we start up. Thanks in advance for anything anyone can offer.

Exit Hijack and boot into Safe Mode.

find4u hides in a file called Winlogon.exe

If you search for this file you wil find a valid one in c:\windows\system32, with a file size of 178 KB.

The bad one will appear somewhere else with a file length of 23 KB.

Delete all the Winlogon.exe files with a length of 23 KB.

Empty your recycle bin.

In Windows Explorer, go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and open the file HOSTS with notepad. It should contain a set of remarks or comments, followed by only one assignment line:

127.0.0.1 localhost

Delete anything in that file other than the comments and the single localhost line.

Save it. Be sure notepad does not rename it with a .txt extension. The file is only called HOST.

Reboot into normal mode and re-enable system restore.

Typo above: "Save it. Be sure notepad does not rename it with a .txt extension. The file is only called HOST."

Line should read "The file is only called HOSTS."
