I'm currently re-oragising one of our live systems.
There are several fs's that I need to remove and re-create with new data.

The question is Do I simply unmount the remove the filesystems or follow another method.

Thanks,

Mon

First, make sure your data is backed up. Then unmount your filesystem(s), then do rmfs /filesystem. This will also remove the corresponding logical volume the filesystem was mounted on. If all filesystems in a volume group are removed then the volume group is also removed.

I disagree with that.

first, before you delete/remove anything on your system - BACKUP.

1. backup
2. make sure what FS you really want to remove/delete
3. remove
4. re-create (if your want to changes the size & some attributes)
5. restore

would be nice if you do it using smit

I did misspeak. Volume groups are removed when no physical volumes remain. Sorry for any inconvenience.
