removing duplicates, updating pointers

I have an array of points, which form the vertices a triangles. I also have an array of triangles, each of which has a 3 pointers pointing to 3 elements of the array. The original array contains duplicate points, as one point may be the vertex of more than one triangle. I need to delete all duplicate points from the array, while updating the pointers of the triangles to point to the vertex that was not deleted. Is there a way I can do this?
