Hi,

I just got a new server with Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 on it. I don't want it to be a Domain Controller, I don't need AD, I just want it to be part of a Workgroup. When I tried to put it on a Workgroup it told me that I need to demote it first. So I ran dcpromo.exe but it's been stuck on "Removing LDAP and remote procedure call (RPC) access to Active Directory..." for about 2 hours now. Is this normal, is this the right way to just make this server be part of a Workgroup??

Thanks
Maggie

I don't think a SBS box may be anything else than the Domain Controller ...

Hope This Helps, PH.

I dont think that configuration is best practice, but if it works for you and meets your requirements, then all well and good :)

I would recommend that you have a robust backup regime set up though.
