Greetings,

I've inherited a Siemens HiPath 4000 system with Optipoint 420 stations. I'm looking to remove a second extension assigned to a station. I don't see this option in the phone config menu (accessed by pressing 1,0,3 at the same time).

Thank you

Do you know which version of the 4000 you have? V5 - V7 are current, there are a few V4 and older ones around yet too. If you don't know snap a quick photo of the front of the Processor (CPCI) shelf and we can tell somewhat by what that looks like... Or... Does it use a compact flash card for backup or a MO disk might be helpful...

Basically you need to connect to the web-based assitant on the system, co into configuration manager and the station item, and then search for the extension of the bottom line button on the phone (prime line). Once you do that you can go into Individual Key Layout on the Basic1 tab and remove the line from the phone. That doesn't remove the line off the system, but it will get it off the phone, which was the primary goal.

It's not the easiest thing on the planet if you haven't ever done changes on this type of full-sized phone system before. We can give you a variety of instructions on how to connect to the system and get into the system depending on if you have physical access to it, or you know the "Customer LAN" address of the system on your network.

Sorry it's not easier to be initially helpful without knowing more.

To remove an extension that is a duplicate you can log on to that extension and complete a factory default on it.
That will remove all local information on the phone just like when it was removed from the box.

Donb01 -

It's a V3 and I was able to follow your directions. I logged into the web management console, went to config manager and typed in the primary extension. I saw the "Indiv. Key Layout" button and was able to pull up the key configuration and I then was able to remove the unwanted extension.

Thanks !

I'm impressed! That was really a broad overview, so someone must have at least had the IP information, login and password where you could find it! Glad to see you were able to accomplish your mission. :)

Yep, I have access to the console and what not. I'm just very new to phone system administration. Would you be able to recommend a book or some administration guide that I could read to bring me up to speed?

Thanks again.

That's a tough question to answer because there really isn't a lot of self help out there that I know of. I started with a class on an older system with similar command functions back in 1996 and then picked up what I could as I went along. If you are a quick study some of the manuals and things are available from this site, and there are more possibilities now that we seem to have a cloud area set up to work with - I think someone recently uploaded the AMO manual for the system. I don't know V3 - I started at V5, and I know the newer the systems get the better the online help in the assistant gets - some of that may be helpful.

I have recently been taking classes to get "certified" on the latest version of the system, and if you can get your company to cough up the cash - I think it's less than 3 grand, go to academy.unify.com and look up the North American Service Curriculum for the Hipath 4000. There is an SVU (instructor-led online) class on Basic Administration using the Assistant - OS4USADM1 that is excellent. You will get a full reference book on how to do the most common, and some less common things using the assistant, such as add/change/delete stations, hunt groups, pick groups, forwarding, backup and restore and some other related stuff. You don't really need to be a rocket scientist to take the class as she will go over basic hardware and other information at the start. It is a 5-day class that runs something like 10 - 3. You can be taking the class while also logged in to your own system so you can look at the similarities between what you are learning and how yours is set up. If you can talk them into it I would really recommend it!

One correction - that class may now be called HIP4USADM1 if you can't find it under the other name.
