Hi Folks - Hope some kind & knowledgable person can help...

We run SMS 2003 SP1 on two sites. I recently uninstalled the Secondary Site (though the server is still in place). Problem is that most (not all) of the clients at this site are now showing as "Assigned" but with no "Client".

I can still Remote to the Clients and the "Site Code" shows correctly and I can reinstall the clients without any change of status.

When I completely uninstall a Client at this remote site, reinstallation makes no difference (except that I lose the ability to Remote Control the devices).

The only messages that I can find that "might" be relevant are as follows (all from Client):
From CCM.LOG -->
------------start------------------
OutgoingMessage(Queue='mp_[http]mp_policymanager', ID={0E250171-8E77-4483-B97F-2EEDC1FECA42}): Will be discarded (expired). CcmExec 05/05/2006 15:47:54 612 (0x0264)

BR-INF-02 is the Primary Site and KS-APP01 was the server on which the Secondary Site was installed.

The ClientServices.log shows the correct assignment.

I've been going round in circles and am now a bit stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Add the secondaries old boundary/ies to the primary site, it should go then.

I added the Secondary Boundaries to the Primary site but it makes no difference. There are some devices at the Secondary Site that are working fine - but not many. I tried uninstalling the agent and reinstalling.... again no difference.

They all seem to be assigned correctly - They just aren't communicating with the Primary Site correctly.

Hi!

Maybe this helps:

-uninstall the client
-goto the clients windows-directory
-there delete smscfg.ini
-reinstall the client
-force a machine policy retrieval
-wait some minutes
-update the collection membership
-refresh the collection (F5)

Does the client appear now?

I removed the Agent using "ccmclean" and renamed the "smscfg.ini" file. Forced the "Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation" action from the client.
--Didn't seem to make any difference.

Doing a bit more digging around, and found an article published by MS, reference 886162 and reproduced in kbAlertz with the title,

"Secondary site and proxy management point objects are not removed from Active Directory when you delete a secondary site in Systems Management Server 2003".

I've followed the advice given and am now waiting to see if this has helped.
