Hi All,
Does anyone know how to stop the printer status messages appear on windows XP? When a document is sent to the printer a little ballon pops up in the system tray above the printer icon saying that the document has been sent to the printer. Apparently this has only happened since SP2 and I would like to turn off the messages on a large number of machines together.
Thanks for any advise,
Kippy

I have my users run this regedit file.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

For an individual case, you can open the Printers and Faxes applet. Choose the File command and then the Server Properties. Click on the Advanced tab and remove checks for "Show informational notifications for...printers.

go to "Printers & Faxes"
File
Server properties
Advanced
Uncheck the bottom 2 (1 if the other is greyed out)
That should solve your issue

Thanks guys,
All replies were extremely helpful.

Guys, I am back on this again.
What is the best way to configure this for a large group of users?
Can the:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000

Be pushed out through group policy?
I need to implement it for a major number of machines.
