Anybody know of a easy way to remove the passwords from all of the GW 6.5 user accounts? (Mgmt decision, I know, I know) I really don't want to have to step through each acct 1 by 1...

Well, I need to get rid of authentication, not change it.

We've recieved an FOI request and need to search every user's mailbox. I've restored a backup to an offline location and I guess I'll gwcheck every acct.

Bleh.

well not sure what country you are in
but personally i beleive that is illegal unless you tell them or something about if you do it to everyone (but hey i'm not a lawyer)

i assume you are using gw pwd
security set to low

not that it matters - i dont think you can
and if you could then it would worry me more

Not sure how many users you are talking about, but you could restore to an offline lab server, then change any passwords you like.

In most places there is no expectation of privacy in a business owned email system. If you haven't done so your employer (govermnment or contractor?)should issue a "terms of use" policy and have it signed so there is no ambiguity.

If it is a government-owned system there is no issue. Your employee union might have a beef but if you restrict your search to the FOIA request there isn't a lot they can do about it.

Fear not, it's all perfectly legal and above-board. We are required by law to make a good-faith effort to comply with the request.

And yes, every user has signed and dated a terms of use policy stating they have no expectation of privacy.

Luckily I'm not the poor sob that has to search this mountain of email. I just need to set it up for them.

Lab Server? In my dreams...

What about using a keyboard/windows macro utility to at least make the job easier. I did an Internet search on "keyboard macro software" and lots of products showed up that could likely help you out. Years ago I used to use a product that is apparently not around any more called ProKey from RoseSoft (that also appears to be gone now) and it was the handiest thing when you needed to make repetitous keystrokes over and over to step through something like you're faced with where a program was either too time consuming to write or the knowledge about the underlying application was insufficient/inaccessible (in this case Console1, I imagine).

Just an idea.

I've gotta plug in a different username for each iteration. I started to script it, but decided to just do it manually. 100 users didn't take as long as I thought it would.
