Remove Overrides Not Working

What am I doing wrong? I can't seem to get changes on my master pages to actually effect existing pages. I make the change on the master page and return to the body pages and get the message: Some pages have overrides. Do you want to remove the overrides? I check that I do want to remove the overrides, but when I get to the body pages, the override is still there. What trick am I missing?

Do you have a first page master and a left and right master? Are you making the changes to a Tag using the Paragraph Designer? What kind of change are you talking about?
