I have nt domain controller (BDC) and i must remove it from w2k active directory.

How can i do this? is there anything like "dcpromo /unisntall" in nt operating system?

thanks,

Its not really possible to do unless you buy 3rd party tools. My approach would be with a hammer and take the server offline and delete all references for the BDC from DNS and Active Directory and WINS.

The NT box really isn't doing anything on your 2000 AD domain...so you can literally turn it off and simply remove the account from your AD.

Obviously if it was handling any chores such as DHCP, etc.., you'll need to move those to another box first. But if it was simply a BDC in an old NT domain, you can shut 'er down.

Agree - but my recommendation is to turn it off and leave it in a corner for a couple of weeks. As long as nothing seems wrong, do a system state backup (which should be done regularly anyway) and delete the computer account and get rid of it for good.

thank you for all reply.

you mean that there has been no command in NT to remove from AD.

It must use Ntdsutil.exe in windows 2000 DC to remove all offline/dead DC in AD. is it right?

The NT box really isn't in AD, so there's nothing to remove. AD wasn't introduced until W2K.

Shut it down, set it aside, wait and see if anything bad happens (which we don't expect to).

My case is as follows:

I have two NT server 4.0 (said srv A and srv B) in domain. Srv A is PDC, srv B is BDC. I upgrade srv A to windows 2000 with AD. Srv B remains NT in this AD. Now, srv B has hardware problem. So, I want to remove it from AD. Then, add the new domain controller with same computer name as srv B.

I know that if I did not remove srv B from AD first, I cannot add the new DC with same computer to this AD.

So , I want to get simple way to do this.

As we've all said, delete the BDC (NT) account. There's nothing special about it. Create a System State backup on the 2000 server first though as a precaution (nothing should go wrong, but if you're the first, why not have a backup?)

Yeah...this is getting a bit old now. You've asked your question, explained your situation, and we've provided you with your answer.

Now, go do it and move on to something else.
