Is there a way to uninstall or remove the msn messanger from the systray. I dont want it there and I cant find where to uninstall it. I looked in the add/remove system componets, not there

I've had several installs of XP where that inf file editing didn't make any difference, I still couldn't uninstall messenger; You can run this from going Start >> Run, and copy & pasting this in:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

That's guaranteed to work, and if you have SP1 installed, an error message will pop but don't worry about it, just click OK & messenger will be correctly removed.

Here is a simple solution to the Messenger problem -
Just go to start, My Computer, C:, Program Files and rename the Messenger folder to anything of your choice.
Tried and Tested.

If you are running Outlook XP or 2003, make sure that it isn't making a request for MSN Messenger.

Tools --> Options --> Other

Look at the bottom of the dialoge box.

If you have Service Pack 1 installed, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and change access of Messenger in the Windows Program Access and Defaults connectoid on the left panel.
