Hi!

I have a Word document that has three sections in it.

The Document/Sections
Section 1: Headers/footers set with "Different odd/even" selected.

Section 2: Has different margins from section 1, and has headers/footers set with "different odd/even" and "different first page" selected. (NOTE: Only this section needs a different first page footer.)

Section 3: Has different margins than sections 1 or 2, and has headeres/footers set with "different odd/even" selected.

The Problem
In some circumstances, section 3 is not needed and has to be removed. I'm finding that when I remove that last section, the margins/headers/footers on the pages before it change to the margins/headers/footers of the pages I just removed.

HELP!
Is there a way to prevent the margins/headers/footers from changing when the last section is removed? I am being pushed very hard to fix this and I am stumped!

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Its a long time since I did anything clever with Word, however from memory, the way to safely remove a section is to switch view to Normal and then select the section break which begins the section you want to remove and then to delete that break and everything below upto but NOT including the next section break if there is one.

Hope this makes sense and helps.

That's what I thought, but when I did that (remove section break and rest of doc in section 3), the headers/footers on the previous section (section 2) were changed to the section 3 headers/footers.

I don't know how to resolve it!

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Make sure none of the header/footers in Section 2 OR 3 have LinkToPrevious set as True.

This shows up as Same as previous when you are viewing the header/footers.

I suspect that Section 3 (and it would) has DifferentFirstPage set to Same as Previous.

Turn it ON first (Sec 3 DifferentFirstPage), make it NOT Same as previous; then check all your headerfooters, make sure everything is NOT set for Same as previous - and to be sure they are correct....

Now turn off DifferentFirstPage for Sec 3.

It should work after this. What version of Word?
