We're running Netware 6.5 sp5 and I'd like to 'turn off' IPX. What would be the best approach to use?

I wasn't able to find any posts concerning this issue so I apologize in advance if this has been addressed previously.

Tim -- Go into NWCONFIG - PROTOCOLS -- In the list you'll see IPX, TCP/IP, Appletalk. Just put the cursor on IPX and hit Delete. This will remove all IPX configurations and it will revert to "Unconfigured".

Note that you'll have to reinitialize the system to disable IPX bindings that are currently active.

Need to also make sure SLP is configured correctly, otherwise workstations will not be able to find the tree to login to. There are TIDS about basic SLP setups. Personally, I prefer to deploy the SLP parameters with DHCP as options 78 and 79. But whatever you do, you gotta have an SLP scope and Directory Agent setup.

Marv,

When I display the slp on the console I get this info:

SLP LOOPBACK : V2 :ACTIVE :WCQ_SLP_SCOPE : IANA : 0 : 0ms

Total Active : 1 Total : Inactive 0

When I display the client it gives me this:

*****************************************************
*** Novell Client for Windows NT ***
*** Service Location Diagnostics ***
*****************************************************

SLP Version: 4.91.0.0
SLP Start Time: 12:51:36am 3/16/2007
Last I/O: 2:59:02pm 3/20/2007
Total Packets: Out: 1541 In: 59
Total Bytes: Out: 111736 In: 2893

DA IP Address Source(s) State Version Local Interface Scope(s)
--------------- --------- ----- ------- --------------- ---------------
192.168.168.5 DHCP UP SLPV2 192.168.168.200 WCQ_SLP_SCOPE

Both options 78 and 79 are setup in DHCP

78 is set to Directory Agent with no value set
79 is set to Service Scope witha value of WCQ_SCOPE

Does this appear correct and setup properly so I can stop IPX?

In addition when I am unable to get info pertaining to the DHCP service through iManager 2.6. I have to use the DHCP/DNS utility. I have the plug-in installed...is there something else I need to do?

Without knowing much about your network, it does appear to be working fine.

Regarding DNS utility.. Yes, keep using the utility. iManager is a terrible way to manage DNS and the utility is much better. There's nothing wrong with using it, I use it all the time.

I don't appear to have a PROTOCOL option under NWCONFIG

I show...

Driver Options
Disk Options
License Options
Copy Files Option
Directory Options
NCF files Option
Multi CPU Options
Product Options (when accessing this the list is blank)

Would the INETCFG utility be appropriate? Looks like you can disable IPX from there
