drwxr-xr-x 3 oracle oinstall 4096 Jul 23 12:47 patchset9.2.0.3

I am trying to remvoe the patchset 9.2.03 and it tells me permission denied. I log in as Oracle who is the owner of this file and issue the command rm -rf patchset9.2.0.4 and I have problem.

any advise???
thanks

Check to make sure you have the appropriate permissions on the folder containing what you posted. If the permissions on the parent folder are not set correctly, you will not be able to delete files.

what do you mean by parent folder are not set correctly??? Could you elaborate a little more????

I am new in Linux plus I am not linux admin

thanks

What are the permissions on the folder that those files are inside? If the "oracle" user doesn't have write access to the parent folder, he won't be able to delete any files inside, even though he has write access to the file itself. Run "ls -l" on the folder that those files are inside.

fyi, if you log in as root, you can delete any file or folder regardless of the permissions set.

You also have to make sure that none of the files in the directory are open. Use 'lsof' to list all open files.
