Hi,

I have an Exchange 2010 sp1 rollup 3 mailbox server that I want to remove from my organisation. Removing from the DAG seems easy enough. What are the next steps to remove and uninstall a mailbox server from an organisation.

We are also running in O365 Hybrid mode, but I am hoping that will make little difference to this project.

Best wishes Michael

Can you paint a little broader picture of what your infrastructure looks like? This server is not the hybrid role server, is it?

1. Remove the mailbox database replica/copies that exist on that server.
2. Use the MoveAllReplicas script to make sure that there are no PF replicas primarily living there.
3. Delete the PF database on that server if there is one.
4. Make sure this server hasn't been delegated any duties with Offline Address Book generation or distribution.
5. Make sure there are not receive connectors on this server that are vital to the organization.
6. Remove this server's name from any send connector scopes.
7. Make sure this server is not the distro group expansion server for any distro groups.
8. Uninstall Exchange. That should remove the relevant objects from the AD.
9. Run Best Practices Analyzer to see if it complains about anything related to the server you removed. If it does, decide whether those things can be changed in the GUI or if you need to go into ADSIEdit and remove/edit objects.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. How do I check for that role? This was the 2nd mailbox server we built.

We have two CAS's at our main site, and two mailbox servers. At our DR site we have a mailbox and CAS combined on one box.

Our mail gateways are Cisco Ironport so we have no Hub servers.

Cheers

Michael

Thanks Dave. I will follow your instructions.

Cheers

Michael
