Remove device from database 1

IBM services tech replaced a bad drive, now when i do anything that effects that volume group i get this error
0516-304 lsvg: Unable to find device id 0008397f7757e89e in the Device
Configuration Database.
0008397f7757e89e removed 542 542 109..108..108..108..109

that looks like a pvid.

try running cfgmgr and see if you get this again.

if not, trying using rmdev command to remove the device, and re-run cfgmgr.

You forgot to do rmdev -dl 'disk'

As kHz points out, you probably didn't remove the OS definition of the hdisk that was physically removed.

I normally do some odmdelete's if challenged with this situation, but I think synclvodm -v <VolGroup> also does the trick.

it's in the man page for reducevg

Sometimes a disk is removed from the system without first running reducevg VolumeGroup PhysicalVolume. The VGDA still has this removed disk in it's memory, but the PhysicalVolume name no longer exists or has been reassigned. To remove references to this missing disk you can still use reducevg, but with the Physical Volume ID (PVID) instead of the disk name: reducevg VolumeGroup PVID

so in your case

reducevg db 0008397f7757e89e

should do the trick.
