I have removed a 3750 switch from a stack and have renumbered it so that it is switch 1
switch(config)# switch 2 renumber 1
switch(config)# no switch 2 provision
When the switch restarted it came up as switch number 1 and the interfaces are renumbered.

However, upon reboot it delays 30 seconds performing Switch Stack Master election. Additionally, show switch command shows it as Stack Master. A switch that has never been stacked does not do either of these.

Is there a way to disable Stacking completely? So that it appears as though Stacking was never enabled?

Thanks in advance

A little more info...

The command below remains in the configuration after reload.
switch 1 provision ws-c3750-48p

Issuing no switch 1 provision results in the following msg.
%IDBs can not be removed when switch is active

I was under the impression the line could be removed from running-config once it was numbered switch 1.

Thanks

I'm not aware of a way to disable the stacking. I believe it is there and always ready so that in case you want to add another switch, all you have to do is connect it.

Its not hurting anything , I wouldn't worry about it. If its the only switch then it has no effect.
