Is it possible to repair, update or fix keyboard drivers remotely. I am running windows 2000 server. I can see drive C from local computer. Problem I am having is keyboard does not respond after the GUI part of bootup(The place you need to type in password, Control, alt, del)but works in bios. Because of this I beleive it is not hardware related.

You could always try booting the machine in safe mode and see if you can update things there.

Is it a USB keyboard? Try switching it to a different USB port if it is, sometimes the computer forgets where it is, particularly with 2000 (and especially if it's a Dell GX280, we have that problem a lot)

cannot get into safe mode, Keyboard is ps2, USB keyboard does not work. sometimes USB mouse quits working too. I am hoping to try other option.

Hi atlantisburn,

Sometimes, if you accidentally plug the mouse into the keyboard socket and the keyboard where the mouse should go, a computer will hang about the time you need to type in a password.

Take your computer outdoors when blowing out the dust; it's mostly skin dust. A clean computer is a cool computer.

i have tried this and about everything else. It would seem to me that I could locate keyboard file remotely and replace them somehow. I seem to be able to get into my registry remotely as well as c drive.I locate files that say kb******* and so on. I assume that these might be the ones. Or if some cantellme a way to open and send to remote computer some sort of exe keyboard driver file. But thanks for the help!

Couple of things...have you tried switching out the keyboard? I've seen a problem before (years ago!) where the KB worked in BIOS / DOS but as soon as W2K started, he keyboard died. Replacing the KB cured it.

If that desn't fix it, you may want to consider booting into system repair and restoring the registry hives from backups (if you really suspect a corrupted registry entry).

Good luck!

Is it possible to repair, update or fix keyboard drivers remotely. This was the question i am trying to answer. I have a post already about "why", but thinks anyways. problem fixed, not sure how. I hit f8 and randomly went through options, agian. I think it was last known config. I remember doing this before with no results. Could an order to i t, like resetting bios, op defaults, the choosing from f8 menu. Anythoughts here? thanks for all effort.
