Does anybody know of a way to remotely disable a service on an NT machine?
We've just rolled out Office XP to our users across multiple OS', but now the NT PCs say 'at least one service or driver failed' at startup, and it's due to XP - the failing service is 'Microsoft Office search service.' We're not interested in using the service, I just want to remotely disable it to prevent the error, across multiple workstations.

Thanks

I don't know if this is what you are looking for but go to If this isn't it, check you some of their other offerings.

Hi there,

You will first need to be an administrator on the remote PC (like a domain admin). Use server manager (srvmgr.exe) from any Winnt server to highlight the PC you want to look at. Choose Computer>Services from the menu and you can then disable the service.

Hope it helps!

P.S. If you don't have an NT server with Server manager, try using the computer management tool in Win2k admin tools. You should be able to connect to a remote PC and check the services there to.
