Hi,

I have a bit of a puzzling problem....

A remote site of ours use a terminal emulation program sat on Win98 that connects to an AIX box, when they leave the machine for 1/2 hour it appears to timeout with the following error message:

"Error 621 Winsock read error 10054"

I have checked the routers and their is no timeout set.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Brendan

Hi Brendon,
What emulation software are you using? as there maybe a setting within it that disconnects the link if it is not used.

Brian...

Brendan,
The setting was not on the routers, but on the emulator itself.
Try using EXCEED95, so you will have no problem at all from disconecting.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice but I have already investigated this and their is no settings in the emulator that dictate time out.

Cheers

Brendan

Is a timeout set in either the user's unix .profile or the /etc/profile file (the TMOUT parameter)? If there is no activity, unix will automatically kick the user off the system. I wonder if that would cause winsock to send the error it's sending?
