Hi all,

I think this is a VPN issue, hence the reason I have posted here but I realise it could be a DNS problem.

I have the situation where a number of remote sites connect to a main head office. All sites are working fine apart from one.

The one in question is connect to the head office via a router VPN which is the same as the other sites.

The problem is that when any user at the remote site in question attempts to access a shared folder which exists at the main office they get prompt for a username and password. This also occurs when they try to access their email through Outlook which connects to Exchange at the main site. I can ping the server from the remote site and also Telnet to it.

I have also seen messages in the event log relating to Kerberos error code 4.

Any ideas where the problem is??

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Same Active Directory domain both at central and remote sites? Same forest? Trust relationships?

Each remote site setup as an Active Directory Site?

Running Replication between all Domain Controllers - both centrally and each site?

How are the remote users authenticated - ie: what type of domain?

Hi,

Yes it is the same domain, forest and same trust.

Each remote site has a local DC.

Yes there is replication between all sites.

They authenticate using the AD domain which is DNS based.

I have now resolved this by making the server at the remote site a member server, making it a DC again and then all was well.

Thanks.
