Hi,

We have a remote user logging onto the network via VPN software who can't seem to get to his email. He is running XP on his laptop and can connect to the network just fine, (internet, network folders, printers, etc.) but he cannot access his Lotus Notes (5.0.5). When he tries to open the mail file, it gives him a pop-up window

The remote server is not a known TCP/IP Host.

I know I have remedied this in the past, but cannot find my notes on the fix.

Thanks,
Karl

Hello,

Could be a names resolution issue if the server name and IP is not specified in his location document. On his client, go to File, Mobile, Locations. Check his current location doc for accuracy. I would also try and ping the Domino box via it's common name while connected. You can also use the "Trace" utility to see where the failure occurs (File, Pref, User Pref, Ports, Trace). Hope this helps.

Rgds,

John

We use a VPN where I work as well and if the user wants to connect to Notes after they have already established a VPN connection we have them make sure that they are using the Office location.

If they still have a problem I create a connection document for our mail server to point to the correct address. I make sure that the document applies only to the Office location so no other locations try to use it.
