I have a couple of questions reguarding VoIP trunks & Gateways. I have a proposed system that the customer wants the 2 BCM's to dial site to site via IP trunks, besides the keycodes are there any other devices needed if someone could explain in detail how to do this it would be greatly appreciated. Also can site b(remote site)access the trunks off site a(main site)they are using analog trunks I know this can be done I'm just not sure how? HELP......

Other devices...only necessary that the 2 BCMs can see each other and the subnets (if IP sets are going to be used). QoS should be enabled on all network devices between the 2 BCMs as well.

Cliffs notes for CDP:

1. Ensure both sites have a business name entered
2. Each site needs to have a non-overlapping DN range and same DN length
3. Each DN needs to have a received number assigned in the private on a target line
4. Each site needs to have a Destination code of the 1st digit of the far end's DN range pointed to a route with the IP trunks in it absorb 0 and call type private)
5. Remote gateway needs to be set up at each site with the necessary IP address and dest digits of the far end
6. For tandeming trunks, simplest means is to create another dest code with call type public and absorb all, external number = line pool code at far end
7. Ensure remote access package at each site has the local line pool and assign that package to the VoIP trunks
8. Under Dial plan type ensure that CDP is chosen
9. RTFMs
10. Await someone else to post the stuff I forgot.

OK I sold the customer the systems I got a deal on a couple of BCM 1000's so that is what I'm installing I already have the site 1 location installed w/ 3000 series exts. so I'm just going to make site 2 to have 2000 series exts. I know all about routes and dest. codes but MagnaRGP on the cliff note number 5 you said set up the gateway with the necessary IP address is that just the IP address of the BCM at each site? I know that VoIP trunks start at line 001 do I just assign as many as I need to a line pool or do you assign them to the bloc pool? Is there any changes that need to be done to the cust. router to allow these VoIP trunks to work or do they just start working? I'm a little confused with these right know do this being my first time using IP trunks do I use H.323 or SIP the BCM's say that they are both enabled also do they have dial tone or are they silent? You make the tandem dialing sound pretty simple to make happen is it that easy should I just relax, cause I feel like that could be the most difficult along with them wanting to be able to page external horns from the main site 1 to the remote site 2 has anyone done this before? Anymore info about these issues would be great oh yeah one more quick thing I have 4 digit dns and when I went to go build some maolboxs the CallPilot was still 3 digit I thought that with BCM's when you change the system dn lenght it automatically changed on the vmail and you can't change it through the set like on a Norstar and I didn't see anywhere to change the lenght through the web browser...

I'll try to hit all the questions:

1. IP address in the remote gateways on each BCM is the IP address of the other site. You will also need to add the destination digit 9 to allow tandeming.
2. I prefer h.323 trunks. I've had issues with SIP. Assign all the VoIP trunks to the same line pool (I usually use pool o). There is no dial tone.
3. As long as the customer's routers know how to find the other side's subnet, there should be no modifications required.
4. Paging at the remote site is not something I have done. I would use an ATA on the page amp and have the users at site 1 just dial the DN to page (3999 or 2999 sounds as good as any DN).
5. Re-install the CP on the BCM to correct the DN length issue (F982).
6. Spend some time with the manuals and guides on the Nortel web site, and have fun with it.

Hey MagnaRGP I really appreciate all the info. it's hard to find good answers sometime and I'm sure you know as well as I do that Nortel manuals are not exactly full of the answers that you are looking for nor easily found for example I was trying to find out something that I thought was fairly basic I was trying to see if there was a page pair that came out on the rj block instead of the one on the msc and I couldn't find that on the 3.7 disc to save my life, I love Nortel that is all I work on and it's my bread and butter but they do have some issues...

Page pair is on the 50 only. On the 200/400 it's MSC only. You can purchase a kit from ALGO that has all the connectors, or you can do what most peeps do and go to the Depot or Circuit City and get a 1/4" to 1/4" cord and cut it in 2.
