Hello.

I am looking for any detailed info on what ports need to be opened on firewall to allow for remote tech access to a BCM 400.

The vendor has asked us to set him up with full VPN client access using a dedicated DSL line.

Is this appropriate?

Does anyone know what specific ports are needed to be opened for remote admin/tech support access?

Any specific tech data that may be available anywhere for us to review?

Appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Tell them to dial in like anybody else would do. Just connect a phone line to the modem port on the BCM.

Forget that!!!! I would only accept that for an Emergency. Anything else, you're paying for a site visit.

Your vendor doesn't need a dedicated DSL. If you have a VPN server, create a user/pass combo and restrict access to the IP of the BCM only. If you don't trust your vendor, either only enable the credentials when they require access and make them request that access or find a new vendor.

We have VPN access with some of our customers and it is great. That is all they need.
