I believe that it is not possible to have the VERITAS software installed on SERVER A) and to *directly* backup files from SERVER A) to a Tape Drive that is physically located on a different machine, call it SERVER B). Before I spend any more time establishing this, can someone please confirm I am correct?, and if I am wrong I would be grateful for an idea of how to do this... I can backup files to a folder on SERVER B) ok. It looks like I am going to be forced to install the tape drive on SERVER A).

Cheers dude(tte)s

You could install Backup Exec on both server A and B, and configure say server A to be the central master server and server B to be a media server. This concept is more refined in version 10, with a centralized media database and centralized management. Of course, you'd have to license both servers with server licenses and any options and agents you might need.
