Setup:
Multiple IBM Netfinity servers w/ NT4.0
ArcServe 6.61 Build 834, SP2a
SQL7.0 w/SQL Agent

For the purposes of this discussion:
ARCSERVER=ArcServe Server (also an MS-SQL server)
SQLSERVER1=MS-SQL Server
SQLSERVER2=MS-SQL Server
***All Are NT4.0

This past Saturday I did some server upgrades (BIOS flashes, RAID controller updates, Firmware updates, etc) and updated my NT4.0 installations from SP5 to SP6a. The same updates were applied to all three servers.

On Sunday afternoon, I checked my Saturday night backup job (should have been done by 4:30am) and it was still backing up databases on SQLSERVER1. Activity Log show that it was taking 2 hours per database, but does not give any errors. Normally, the job runs in 30 minutes for all the databases on both SQLSERVER1 and 2.

I ran some test backups on SQLSERVER2 and it seems to be doing fine on SQL, regular files, and the registry. ARCSERVER also backs itself up just fine for all three file types.

Upon further inspection of SQLSERVER1, I found that the ArcServe NT Agent was not configured with any IP address(yet it was prior to my Saturday upgrades). I re-config'd it and was able to backup some data files OK, but SQL databases still take 2 hours each (more during working hours).

My plan is to remove all of the ArcServe clients from SQLSERVER1 and re-install them this evening. If that does not help I'll try removing SP6a and rolling back to SP5 for NT.

If anyone else has experienced this, I'd like to know ASAP.
Thanks everyone... Monkeylizard

Nevermind...
Problem was an IRQ conflict with my RAID adapter and my NIC... oops! Monkeylizard
