Remote Site Tape Exchange

I have several sites that we are backing up. We don't really have an IT person there, so we have a service company coming in weekly to change tapes.

They will eject/load the library magazines from the library's front panel.

What I need to do is setup ARCserve r12 so that after new/recycled tapes are inserted, ARCserve will inventory and see the new tapes. Only one of the two magazines can be ejected at a time, so I don't think the "door close" feature is a workable solution. We want to minimize the time the service company is used and don't want to wait for inventory/erase/format of one magazine before the second one can be reloaded.

I am planning on doing full backups on Sunday and then differentials Mon-Sat. The tapes would be changed out on Monday.

Is anyone else doing this kind of exchange?
Any suggestions?

Hi,

You can enable autoinventory on your autoloader:

Add the DWORD value DoorShutInit under the following key and set it to 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Base\TapeEngine\CHANGER_CFG

We're doing this on our exchange cluster autoloaders.
