i'm a network manager and i'm being told by my server manager that the reason a remote site is having problems updateing it policies is because icmp is turned off between the two sites by a firewall.

i've searched the net and can't find any referance to Active directory using icmp Pings for any of it's operations.

Can anyone confirm if a client needs to use a icmp Ping to work with active directory properly when not on the main site.

as you might have guessed i'm not an expert on AD interaction, so please excuse if this is a simple question.

any questions please get in touch.

many thanks

thanks for that very interesting, and most helpfull.

I'll assume then that if ICMP is turned off on a firewall then it's going to consider the link as slow and act acordingly.

will hopefully solve the problems we are having.
