Remote search with AIX 5L

We migrated our document search server from 4.3.3 to 5L.
A lot of machines use this server for a remote search after the man-command. These machines all still run 4.3.3.
But now, every remote search leads to segmentation fault an d produce a core:

root@jupiter:/var/root# man ls
Remote search is in progress..
Segmentation fault(coredump)

Does anybody know the reason?
