Has anyone had any experience with remote registry editing in a peer to peer Windows 98 4.10 environment. I tried setting it up unsuccessfully. Here's what I've tried so far. On both computers (trying on only 2 until I can get it to work), went into Control Panel-Passwords and enabled remote administration and entered password. When I tried it a message told me the "remote registry service" needed to be added. I added on both computers. On reboot after adding, message came up saying service would not function until user-level access was enabled. I then enabled user-level access on both computers. On reboot, I received an illegal operation message and was forced to close out remote registry service. I then went out to MS Knowledge Base under Windows 98 and found article for installing remote registry (no ref to peer to peer). It stated that for file administration user level access and remote registry services were NOT required. it said only system monitor required remote registry services and user level access. makes no sense to me. Any ideas?

Perhaps the illegal error message had diagnostic value?
Can you invoke the error again? It may lead you to a fix.
Tech Net will sometimes lead you to fixes if you input the error message into the search engine.
You may have to experiment until you start getting answers. Sometimes just the 1st part of the error message as a search string...sometimes the whole kaboodle...
