I ran the script that is in this thread and can't get it to work sure would like some help with this. I have a windows 2000 server that I want to use this on. I was having problems with the script keep telling me there was something wrong with the script so I went line by line and tried to fix it and it go straight thru and I think is is going to work but then it gives me this error. Privileged not held. thread96-1082642

The code is fine, I use it on hundreds of systems.

Your issue is related to permissions, you need to have the rights assigned to remotely restart the system.

Check local policy of the machine and look at User Rights Assignment.

Navigate to:

Computer Configuration
Windows Settings
Security Settings
Local Policies
User Rights Assignment

At a minimum your ID must have the following:
Access the computer from the network.
Force shutdown from a remote system.
Shutdown the system.

I hope you find this post helpful.

markdmac What I want to do is put this on another server and run it as a scheduled task to reboot two other servers on our network. Any issues with that?

No there should not be. You could as an alternative just put the script as a scheduled task on each of the other servers, that way permissions are local and the remote issue is taken out of the equation.

I hope you find this post helpful.
