I have a issue here. I have been told that this can not be done, and I have been told it can.

I have a remote client that uses DSL as internet access and connects to our main office via VPN. When he VPN's in he connectes to our NT 4.0 Server, then uses Facetwin to access our RS6000 AIX machine. What I am trying to do is give this remote client the abillity to print to a printer connected directly to his remote pc. One problem seems to be that this VPN connection gets an ip from DHCP(which I understand will have to be static in the long run). I have made an entry on the RS6000, in the /etc/hosts file for the remote computer (ie.. 10.0.0.x RemotePc). Then, once connected I was able to ping the remote computer by IP and computer name. I got a print queue set up on the RS6000, and shared the printer on the remote computer. When I try and send a print job to this printer is just hangs out there saying (Status="connect"). When I do a lpstat command, it lists all print queues and stops and hangs right after listing the remote print queue. I am guessing that I have a problem communicating with the remote printer, but not sure if this can even be done or if I just have a setting wrong or a share wrong or .....?

First, Is it possible to do this?
Second, What do I need to do or do different to get this done.

The fact that you are getting the message as "connecting" means that you are probably setting the printer up as a JetDirect printer with piojetd as the backend. This by defaults trys to print to port 9100. Does your client support receiving jobs on this port, or does it expect lpr/lpd (port 515) in which case you would need rembak printing.

There is not enough info to answer your question and I don't check the forum often.
