I am looking for a command that will shutdown the OS and power off the hardware in HP-UX 10.20, 11.0 & 11i.

Solaris has the init 5 command that does exactly that (assuming a sun4u). But I can't seem to find a command for HP-UX. I've tried shutdown -h, but it just halts the OS.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Joe

There is the command power_onoff but I think this is for use with UPS. best look at the man page. Alternatively if you have GSP there is the Remote Power Control function.

if you have access to a system console via secure web console and/or lan console, just hit ctrl/b to acccess the mp (maintenance processor), login, get a list of commands with HElp. there should be a power on/off command. this cannot be used in scripts, though.

Indeed - you have to halt the system, and then via the console log onto the GSP and use the power off command - found in the command menu. If you use help and the li (for list) it should display tyhe available commands. Please note that this does NOT shutdown the system, it's a bit like pulling the plug.
