I have an IP office 403 and would like to set up a remote office. At the remote office I have dsl and linksys router, at the main office I have dsl and another linksys router. I'm looking for the overview of how to set up a 4600 ip phone at the remote site. Do I use a VPN session? System architecture? What paramaters need to be set up on the 4600 phone during startup? A point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Internet VPN and remote users for Avaya IP Office.
We have successfully deployed an IP Phone thru a VPN Connection. Site "A" has an ADSL connection with dynamic IP addressing. Site "B" has a Cable modem connection with dynamic IP addressing. The first thing to accomplish is to establish a VPN. Step one was to register a domain name for each site with a dynamic hosting company such as changeip.com (since the IP addresses are always changing with ADSL or Cable connections a dynamic DNS hosting company will always point your new the right IP address). Once you have registered site "A" and site "B" select a pair of VPN Firewall units. We used the Symantec VPN100 and it was a breeeze to setup. Site "A" we addressed as 192.168.1.1, site "B" was programmed as 192.168.2.1. We shipped the VPN 100 to the remote sit e"B" and had the VPN up within 30 minutes. An integral feature of the VPN100 from Symantec is a dynamic DNS feature to report an IP Address chage to your domain name dynamic hosting company.
Now that the VPN is up and running make sure you have at least a 5 VCM in your IP403. On the IP telephone destined for site "B", program the phone with a 192.168.2.XXX address, with a gateway of the VPN100 (192.168.2.1). Make sure the TPTP server is the site "A" PC running the manager application. Ship the phone to site "B" and have them plug into the VPN 100 and away you go. Test a ping to the phone's IP address to assure connectivity.

I've got the vpn up and running but I'm still having some trouble. I can ping all of the pc's at site a but not the IP Office itself. Any suggestions.

Make sure you define an IPRoute in Manager with the IP address of the remote locations address ie 192.168.2.0 IP Mask 255.255.255.0, the gateway should be the address of VPN router at the IP office location ie 192.168.1.1, Destination LAN1.

We have used Linksys VPN routers with cable modems and they work well. Also, the IP addresses haven't changed in weeks!

Thanks, I added the ip route and was able to ping the IPoffice, but cant get the phone to fire up. I tried a IP hard phone first. The display said it was receiving the files but then went to "discovering" and the pound sign. I Then tried the soft phone. It connected and found the phone manager pro license but I was unable to get the speaker, and mic icons to light up. I did have it checked for voice over ip in the preferences.

The switch at the main site doesn't have qos but I was trying this in the evening when there is no traffic on the network. I would think it should fire up even if the voice quality was shakey. Bandwidth should be a problem either. I have 1 meg to site a and 1 meg to the remote site. When I ping I get less than 52ms of delay.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

With regard to the hard phone, you need to set the gateway to the IP address of the router of the LAN it plugged into. The call server should be the IP of the PC that the manager software is on, and it must be running manager for files to download to the hardphone.
