I have an Octel 250 system with a Nortel Option 81C switch.
Can I setup so that a user will be notified by calling his cell phone if a message is left in his voicemail.
We use to have paging but now everyone has cell phones with e-mail.
The user can go into his/her mailbox and setup outcall to his cell phone
Main Menu, 4 (personal options), 4(notification schedule)
setup schedule 1 and can set schedule 2 if needed
Be sure the Notification is "ON"
Main Menu, 4,1
The user will have to speak into the cell phone or press a button to send a tone to the Octel to let it know the call was answered. Then the user can input the password for the mailbox. The CID is the outcall phone number used by the switch.
You need to also make sure that the ports are setup for outcalling in menu 4 of the Octel and that the ports from the PBX are allowed to make an outside call.
the users class of service should also allow outcalling or it will not let the user program it.
An alternative to actually having Voicemail "Call" the phone is to use the cellular SMS (Short Messaging Service) which is a text message alert. See my previous posting in this forum from "lakehouse"
