It appears that Remote Manager is not working after installing SP5. I recently installed SP5 (6.5) and really hadn't used Remote Manager until now. But it won't start. iManager seems to work fine. Any ideas?

It appears that iMonitor isn't working either.

Remote Manager is also not available via the server gui screen. When I try to access it this way it just comes up with a blank screen.

Remote Manager is different than iManager or iMonitor. Remote Manager has its own built in HTTP service.

So if it's not working, it's really independent of any other service. Are you able to access http:\\xx.xx.xx.xx:8008 or http:\\xx.xx.xx.xx:8009 through your browser at all? What kind of errors?

Also, do you have Portal.NLM running (There are other modules that also load).. Look in your autoexec.ncf file for a section with Portal, NICI, LDAP, etc

Marv,

Portal is not running. So assume this is my problem. When I attempt to load it I get an initialization error, but no other info.

autoexec.ncf is loading it...

My bad. There is some additioanl info on the error.

Marv,

Any ideas here? I rebooted the server with the same result. Can't find anything on the Novell site.

OK. So after some extensive web searching I did find that in order to fix this you must move portal.nlm to start before ndsimon.nlm in the autoexec.ncf. After moving the load parameter and rebooting portal.nlm came up fine and I am now about to access Remote Manager...generally referred to as the Portal (for obvious reasons).

Can anyone comment as to why this would be only after installing SP5?

the order is important

i have seen that in the past where you needed to change the order. this is talked about in some of the tids

cant think what would have changed it though - i think it's when people tidy up the config files

apache order is weird as well - i allwyas do
