Remote Management on Dell and Novell

I have a question about Dell servers in a Novell environment.

With Compaq servers, you can install agents on the servers and monitor your entire network with Compaq Insight Manager.

With Dell, how do you do this? I've seen some blurbs about openmanager, and I've used Array manager on servers to modify the arrays.. but it's a bit clunky and difficult to install and make work completely. Compaq also has Remote Lights Out boards that can be used to remote into the server and power off/on/reboot/flash bios/etc.. Does Dell have a comparable product?

If anyone is currently using a Dell solution, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it.

Dell has two products out there and since you say servers as in several. The Product is called IT Assistant. It will allow viewing your server’s status temp, probes, fan rpm, etc. and it has a remote control feature as well. It should be on the Dell Openmanage CD. It is very easy to install but it requires SNMP to be running before it will install. Setup the server and management station with SNMP running and put the Openmanage CD in the workstation drive and it should boot.

Michael, yes when I say server(s), I mean 20-30 or more in remote locations.

Will IT Assistant allow you to view status of all servers at the same time in one viewable screen?

Yes there is just one screen that list all the servers and the OS they are running and they have color status to show warnings or problems. It also works with Netware servers as well.
