We have an NT network with approximately 15 users locally accessing a pdoxusers.net file, which does happen to be located on the server. We have a new laptop which while remotely accessing the network (dialup) basically doesn't work at all. So I copied all of the data files onto the laptop and rerouted the aliases (well made a second BDE configuration file--which isn't working just right either) to the laptop. Just for grins I left the network pdoxusers.net file the same and it is still unbearably slow. It works fine with the net file on the laptop. So, I am checking, is it basically not reasonable to assume that a dialup connection will work to access a paradox network? There is really no way to access the network data even by query without sharing the same net file, is it?

Not sure how you are connecting, but a thin client solution works best. We use PCAnywhere and have no problems. The host machine contains the paradox files and when the user is logged in via modem, he is basically controlling the host machine by passing keystrokes and screen updates. We also use Citrix, but that is quite expensive.
