Hi

I'm a complete novice so apologies.

I installed mysql v 4.112a using the windows msi file. Ran all the tests ie mysqladmin -u root -p version etc and then created used create database itpdiary.

If I then go to the remote computer and try to log in using:-

host 213.171.206.211 (the ip address of my server)

username root

password aspen

port 3306

database itpdiary

and press connect I get the following error message

error 1130

hostdsl 207-155-47-237 zen.co.uk is not allowed to connect to this mysqlserver.

I assume this means thatphpmyadmin has found the server?

The username root I'm assuming is set by the install program?

Can any nice person tell me where I've gone wrong?

The server is windows 2003 web edition with iis v6

thanks

Ian

If you connect as root from the MySQL server machine, you can find out what user accounts have been created ("SELECT user, host, password FROM mysql.user"), and then add/delete accounts and grant/revoke permissions as required.
