I have an opportunity to place about 25 remote ip phones from a BCM 400 system. Licensing is in place.

Call volume would be moderate. Would it be best to get an MPLS circuit rather than relying on a VPN?

More importantly can a BCM 50 be repurposed as a SRG and link to a BCM 400? If so, what is the benefit?

I work on Avaya IPO these days and we often have remote sites where we use VPN's. It works very well and the only thing I would suggest is that you have a good UPS installed at both ends.
SRG used to be a good seller, but personally I wouldn't bother with it.

i've done the remote ip sets on cisco, ip office and just turned up my 5th bcm with remote sets
biggest issues i have is carrier reliability - but to be fair, some of the sites are really remote
doing a vpn is definitely a better solution than stuff like port forwarding
i'm toying with setting S2 bcm call server iP to the main site as a port forward though, these new routers that the customers server guy put in seem WAY too flaky to me
the other thing i need to rethink is their 911 services
(I JUST turned this up last weekend and ironing out the bugs)
