Has anyone connected IP hardphones from a remote site over the internet(no point to point) with any success? If so did you point the IP phones to the external address of where the IPO was located and port forward from there?

You can do it with the VPN Remote phones. i do not think you can do it without a VPN

you need vpn
vpn remote softwareon the phones or a vpn router
i believe it is possible but then you have to use the ip office as your router
but then your telephony is connected to the outside world
but vpn is the way to go
also you need QOS otherwise a big incoming email will stop the current call

VPN is all that Avaya tier 3/4 will support. Trying to do remote phones over the open Internet is not supported. The only times I've heard of that working is when the sites invoved were all supported by the same ISP (ie. a pseudo VPN).

You don't must use vpn for remote IP Hardphones. 4602 work fine without vpn on My IPO.

you misunderstood. You might get it working but if you have problems Avaya won't help you unless you're using VPN.

Thanks for the replies. So I take it that I should try and get this customer to set up a hardware VPN but it will work over the net. I have already let them know I cant guarantee
any QoS. Does Avaya now make a VPN Hardphone?

You can run the VPNRemote software on a 4610/4620. It is a $325 license in addition to the cost of the phone. The latest load has a Gneric PSK profile you can use to connect to many devices. I have termintaed them to a Kentrocx and various Cisco and Linksys devices. If you use the Avaya SG product, it is even easier to get them working. Here is a link to the Administrator's Guide:

Do you need one license per phone or just 1 license?
