Remote install license key file

I can SSH into the CS1000E R7.5, but how do I transfer the file over the network and install the license (.kcd) file remotely?

You don't, you will need it on a compact flash or enter it line by line through command line. No way to send the file over remotely that I know of.

For other users, what KCFLHRC said was correct that the file needs to be on a compact flash or enter it line by line through command line.

There are a couple of methods to get the file onto the compact flash:
1. obvious method: direct copy from the computer
2. FTP file over to the CS, then copy it over to the compact flash. This is the way I did it since I don't have a compact card reader and I am not in front of the chassis...

Then you can proceed with the installation normally.

I literally just loaded a new keycode file via modem. If that's an option, it works quite well. Only issue may be that I think Hyperterminal is the only way to do it - at least the only one that has worked for me.

You can use an FTP program such as WinSCP to transfer the file.

The bad thing about doing it remotely is that the new keycode file is not on the install media. So if another tech has to reload the switch when your gone then he may be loading an old file. And if the old file contains fewer licenses, say for digital sets, it will automatically remove the required sets to get under the license file number at random. Not a good thing.

ISM Parameter Upgrade for Large System

1. On a PC access the PBX with HyperTerminal.
2. Place keycode diskette in A: dive of PC or have Keycode.KCD file on your PC.
3. Log into PBX.
4. LD 143
5. KUPL
6. Click the Transfer menu in Hyper Terminal and select Send text File
7. From the Files of Type pull-down menu select All files (*.*)
8. Locate and select the keycode file on the PC.
9. Click Open
The keycode is displayed after the KUPL prompt.

10. At prompt enter KDIF REC HD
11. Ensure the new keycode does not lower ISM limits or reduce features
12. Enter KNEW HD to activate new keycodes

It does give you the option to load it on the RMD, so it may not be on the install media, but it will be on the backup!

I am on CS1000E R7.5

Steps:
1. FTP to the CS
2. Change directory to /u/pub
3. Transfer the .kcd file over
4. SSH into the CS
5. Switch into PDT mode
6. Rename /cf2/keycode/keycode.kcd to something else for rollback if needed.
7. Copy file from /u/pub to /cf2/keycode
8. Exit PDT mode
9. Get back into CS
10. RMD will now point to the new /cf2/keycode/keycode.kcd
11. KDIF REC RMD
12. KNEW RMD

I could be wrong but when we were running CS1000E R5.0, I was able to FTP as well.

If you want to get really crazy, you can WinSCP/SFTP directly to the /cf2/ directory as well.

And WinSCP/SFTP definitely works on a VxWorks call server - at least on 7.6.

You are right.
I was looking for a place to put the file up under /u and /p. Most locations won't allow me. I guess /cf2 is the exception.
This would cut down the hassle of using PDT.
