Remote HGT100 SIP Extensions on NCP500

I am trying to setup some HGT100 SIP extensions on our NCP500 PBX for a handful of remote workers. The extensions all work fine when on the local network, but will not work remotely.

Port 5060 on the router is set to forward to the local IP of the PBX, i.e. the IPCMPR card. All I'm changing is the IP address in the config of the SIP phone from the internal address to the external one. There is talk on here of needing to use a STUN server, but the config of the SIP phone doesn't seem to allow for this. The HGT100 is Panasonic's recommended SIP phone for the NCP500/1000 PBX so I'm puzzled as to why it isn't more straightforward to get working.

I've read a lot on here from people with similar problems but haven't found anyone with exactly the same issue, hence starting this new thread.

Any help would be appreciated.

You need a vpn for remote phones on the NCP

You need a Ns series for the media relay built in

There are at least 3 reasons why the phone will not work.

Panasonic has an oddball/None Standard arrangement for SIP implementation.

The SIP Port is not 5060, it is 35060 by default.

If your remote phone were to Register to the KSU, the KSU would send its Local LAN IP Address to the phone for additional SIP Messages.
It would not send its Public IP Address so the Remote phone can no longer communicate wit the KSU.

Also, you need to Port Forward the RTP Range (Voice Packets) of ports (I don't know what the range is) to the Local LAN IP Address of the DSP Card.

You really need to use a Router to Router VPN between each Remote Location and the KSU.
Do that and most of the oddball stuff goes away.
I seem to remember that Remote Phones can ring but not talk to each other unless you set up a VPN between each of them.

Of course, you could also jump forward to more modern systems that use Open SIP Standards.

That would really solve all the issues when trying to use the Panasonic NCP-500 with Remote phones.

Oh yes, you could use the newer NS-700 (in the USA) that allows Remote phones (mainly their NT Series not SIP) to work OK.

The register port on the panasonic is 5060 by default the dsp card is port 35060

Panasonic does use standard sip not it own

It will not work on the NCP because it doesn’t have a media relay like the NS series
And is not designed to change the header with wan address instead of the internal one so the voice doesn’t know the route back to the system causing speech issues

Also the NS 700 does support sip. You have to do port forwarding and translation for the sip register port for security reasons
