Hi Guys,

I have a customer who has a Mitel 3300 controller with software ver 9.0UR1, they have about 100 remote extensions connected to this controller via different site through VPN connections - the solution works great and the voice is perfect...... the only problem is, some of the users say when they come in first thing in the morning the phone needs to be rebooted (this only happens on about 8 handsets on 2 different sites) I think it may have something to do with the bandwidth being used through the night!!!

If it is the bandwidth, is there a work around..... like setting a reboot for just those handsets?

Cheers

Andy

Probably a registration time out
Compare settings with the good connections

It wouldn't be a bandwidth issue, the sets use very little when not in a call, only heartbeats back to the controller. If they had lost communication through the night they would have reset on their own and come back up when there was a connection. Assuming here that the vpn connection comes back or never went away.

Sounds strange to me though that if it was a registration timer, that a simple reboot of the phone would fix it, kinda defeats the purpose of being able to timeout an extension....

Log records are generated on the controller when it looses contact with phones. So you can see when it is happening. Check if all sets loose connection at the same time or one by one? If you monitor VPN status you should be able to corelate events in ICP with other events in your network.

Ask a user who complains the most not to restart the phone but let you know when it is in unknown status. You can see registration state, IP address and other information which can help you to locate the problem

We had similar problems with a couple sets using IPSEC VPN and Cisco 831 routers. The minute we put them on as Teleworker phones the problem was gone. I suspect your VPN tunnel is timing out on you.
