I am new to Filemaker and I need to make some modifications to an existing data base which I have copied to my PC.

How do I make changes in the Layout View and get them back to the customer without also moving the data?

The problem is that while I am working the changes, the customer is running his copy of the data base. If I copy my changes to his data base the data goes with it and will wipe out his work.

Save your file as Clone/No records.

Import the data into that file.

Check the data in the new file.

Can you import his data to your updated copy? Requires downtime, but you could export/import the data, and make your copy the production version.

I'm not sure of all the options available to you, since the last version of FM I used was back in the Dark Ages, and was a single pile of bits with no way to selectively update objects in the DB.
