Hi

I setup a remote desktop on an XP pc using port 3389.

If I go to another pc on the LAn and using the RDT applet type in the IP address of the PC I can connect.

The PC has a fixed Ip of 192.168.1.23

I then open the router and via it's firewall settings told it to allow UDP and TCPIP traffic on port 3389 to be allowed and sent to the IP address of 192.168.1.23

Going to a remote locations I am now told

this computor can't connect to the remote computor

try connectong again if the problem persists contact the owner
of the remote computor or you network administrator

I contacted the Router tech who tested the router and said they could ping the internal PC and it was acepting traffic. So the problem is with Windows desktop.

Has anyoone any idea where I go from here?

thanks

Ian

192.168.1.23 is a private address. You need to access your network first before you can access the desktop.

Hope this helps.

Let me clairify this. You need to use your ISP IP so on your home machine in IE type whatismyip.com. Your best solution would be to use logmein.com. This is a free service and works through any firewall, also your ISP IP will change from time to time.

Can you ping?
If you are connction from PC to PC on the LAN is the Firewall on? if so, you will have to add exception.
If on the WAN, check your routing.
