I have enabled the remote desktop on my computer. I try from other computers to remote in and I can not. I get an error saying there was a network error please contact your admin. I made sure I have permissions to remote in. This is the only pc that we are having problems with. I have 60 other xp boxes that it works fine. Does anyone know anything I can try.

Make sure the XP firewall is disabled and the username you are using is in the list of Remote Desktop users on that machine. What's the exact architecture between the remote computer (client) and the XP desktop?

-Volkoff007

XP Firewall is not running. I have disabled that. As for rhe architecture it is an xp to an xp maching in the lan. I have tried connecting the pc accross the backbone and then isolating it on a hub. No workstation can access my pc.

Make sure that the required services are running. Start, Run, services.msc

I believe that Remote Access Connection Manager and Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing are required. There may be others. If anything looks like it should be running and isn't compare it to a working machine or post back here to compare with some of the readers.

Does the account that you're trying to use remotely have a password?

Can you ping the XP box's IP? You might also want to try tracert and the IP of the XP box to see what it's going through.

Yes it has a password. I have tried the admin account and my personal account (which is a domain admin) and they both get the same error.

I can ping the box. When I do a tracert, it goes straight to the box.

If you go to the XP box, right-click My Computer, click the Remote tab and choose Select Remote Users do you see the admin account or your personal account in the first box?

-Volkoff007

Yes I do!. I even put the group everyone in there. I don't know what else it could be.. Anyone please help

This is a little off the subject, but I have abandonned Remote Desktop in favor of RemoteAdmin. Inexpensive, unobtrusive, very fast, can get in through my router and ZoneAlarm with some minor setup. I highly recommend it, see

Budget wise that will never fly. I agree I think there are other products out there that do a great job, but don't think i will get approved to spend any money.

I still have not gotten this to work!!! Does anyone know if it could be a local security policy on the box. The last individual that used this pc prior to me was a security gooroo.... please hel!

On my local machine... I am not too sure on doing that! Could you help and explain
