Remote Desktop Title

Does anyone know if there is a way to change the title for the remote desktop connection. I connect sometimes with several different User ID's it always displays just the Computer name the connection is with. Ideally since I am only connecting to one server it would be great to have it display the loged on user name.

Here's how you do it. You have to be very clever, like me.

Open your hosts file and create as many new entries as there are users that you will connect with. Make it look like this, assuming that your server IP is 10.11.12.13


10.11.12.13 john
10.11.12.13 fred
10.11.12.13 admin
10.11.12.13 vich

Save your host file.

Now, when you run the RDP client, use one of the names you put in your host file as the hostname when you make an RDP connection. Match the name with the login. So when you log in as "vich", make sure you connect to the server using the hostname "vich". Since the title of the RDP window is whatever name or IP you used to connect with, it will display the name you want to see....

Another option is to change your desktop appearance since you would have different profiles for each user login.

I use this one a lot.

We use BGINFO from Sysinternals. It puts all the information you would want in the corner of your desktop wallpaper. It runs as part of our log-in script so even if they change their wallpaper, the next time they log-in to the network, BGINFO runs and puts the information back in the corner.
